Rai: mother asks to "live like everyone else"

Arpan Rai, 3 August — widowed Noida mother of the teenager accused of cursing Narendra Modi at CJP protests appeals to state and public: stop hounding the family. Girl's harassment, mother says, forced them out of home.

Modi said guided officials assured participants would not face legal action. Police in several states still filed cases, Rai notes. PM line in the video address: "I want to forgive those who abused me. I request society to accept my decision."

Mother told Indian Express (quoted by Independent): forced to flee neighbours and strangers. "I'm raising my daughter alone. My husband died in an accident in 2019 and my younger son lives with in-laws. How do I continue living when people and police keep coming to the house?" Married 2010; daughter born 2011, son 2014. "Please forgive and let us live like everyone else." Police still visiting; she and daughter shifted; girl Class 10, mother teaches students; future unclear. Daughter apologised for "blunder" — legal trouble remains. "The prime minister has forgiven her. Then why was the case transferred from Noida to Delhi? What if Delhi police start coming and harassing us in future?"

Saurav Das, CJP spokesperson: Delhi sit-in called off 25 July after government "assured no punitive action would be taken against any protester, either now or in future." Party alleges more than 100 arrested nationwide since, many on non-bailable charges. Delhi Police, PTI-sourced unnamed official: crackdown on abusive online posts targeting Modi; asked three platforms to pull "objectionable" content; identifying more.

Second piece: rare blink, fear threshold

4 August Independent analysis — CJP waved mock-Modi signs for weeks, then extracted cabinet resignation few had forced in 12+ years of Modi power. Under-25s nearly half the country; digital-first organising.

Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay, Modi biographer: "This particular round ended in an important defeat for Mr. Modi." Minister's exit, he said, lowered fear of street protest. "The threshold of fear has been broken. People are no longer scared to step out and protest."
