Dipke: BJP goons, not students, attacked Delhi cops

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday answered families of injured Delhi Police personnel who held a morning press conference over the Jantar Mantar clashes. He said he felt sorry for officers hurt during the agitation, then drew a hard line: students did not attack police, he alleged — "BJP goons" did.

Hindustan Times and Times Now both carried his remarks to ANI, issued hours after kin of injured officers spoke at the Constitution Club.

Sympathy, then the charge

"We have sympathy for the police officers who were targeted in such a manner. At the same time, the students who were brutally beaten by police officers, what about their families?" Dipke told ANI, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

He said violence against police was not the work of student protesters. "This was done by BJP goons. I have been saying since day one that the BJP will send its goons to create disruptions. They have done exactly that. I feel sorry that the police officers were targeted by the same people who were carrying out these actions," Hindustan Times reported.

Times Now carried the same core claim: Dipke said he had warned from the start that the BJP would deploy disruptors, and that he sympathised with attacked officers while asking why student families received less attention.

"Habitual offenders" and a conspiracy charge

Dipke alleged that "habitual offenders" were used against students and that a conspiracy aimed to scare youth away from future protest. "Habitual offenders must be dealt with according to the law. They are using those habitual offenders to target students," Hindustan Times quoted him as saying. He added that people from Bihar and Mumbai "did not do anything in Delhi," and that the targeting was meant "to threaten them that they should not dare to question the government or come out in protest again."

Times Now reported the same conspiracy language and his claim that disruptions of this kind appeared at the Delhi protest site rather than elsewhere.

Context: police families spoke first

Dipke's comments followed a Friday briefing by relatives of Delhi Police personnel injured during the CJP / Sansad Chalo period. Times Now quoted Kunjal, daughter of a sub-inspector and a Delhi University student, saying her father was pulled and beaten near the barricades, suffered a head injury needing four stitches, and was painted as a villain online. Lakshay Singh Bisht, son of an assistant sub-inspector, said his father's head was shaved for stitches and that online debate ignored violence faced by police near Parliament.

Times Now said police put injured personnel at more than 130 during the march from Jantar Mantar toward Parliament, up from earlier estimates above 118. Those figures come from police statements reported by the outlet; independent forensic tallies are not in the two sources used for Dipke's quotes.

Congress worker Ratna Singh, reacting on X, said she wished a thousand protesters and their families could hold a press conference as well, Hindustan Times noted.
