Sonam Wangchuk to be Discharged Monday, Will Visit Rajghat Before Returning to Ladakh

Sonam Wangchuk will walk out of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Monday morning, three days after the 36-day Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) agitation he anchored ended with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. His team told reporters he will be discharged around 11:30 a.m.

From the hospital, Wangchuk is scheduled to visit Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi before flying back to Ladakh, two sources familiar with the plan said. The Hindu and Srinagar-based outlet Kashmir Life both reported the itinerary on Sunday evening.

The Rajghat stop carries a clear callback. Wangchuk paid tribute at the same memorial on June 28, the day he joined the Jantar Mantar protest against the NEET-UG paper leak and begun an indefinite fast that would run for 26 days. He was removed from the protest site on July 18 and moved to Safdarjung Hospital, where he alleged he was being held in detention. The Delhi High Court then ordered his transfer to Medanta for treatment.

The Hindu, citing a PTI photo credit, said Wangchuk is "recovering" after breaking his fast late on July 24 — hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's video address promising fast-track courts for paper-leak cases. Kashmir Life confirmed the same discharge timing and the planned Rajghat visit, noting the 36-day CJP-led agitation "ended on Saturday after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the Union Council of Ministers."

"The CJP subsequently withdrew its agitation, saying it had done so in good faith after Pradhan's resignation and assurances from the Centre on its remaining demands," Kashmir Life reported.
