Noida Student Served Rs 5 Lakh Bond Notice for CJP Protest; Order Revoked After Supreme Court Ruling

A 20-year-old second-year law student at Gautam Buddha University was served a show-cause notice demanding a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh for allegedly participating in Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests at Jantar Mantar in July, only to have the order revoked a day later after the Supreme Court quashed all related FIRs.

The notice, dated September 4, was issued by the Greater Noida Executive Magistrate under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Section 130, which empowers a magistrate to require a bond for good behaviour as a preventive measure. According to the police report, Akshat Tripathi — who hails from Jhusi in Prayagraj (Allahabad) but resided in Ecotech-1, Greater Noida — was accused of "spreading anti-government, misleading statements among other university students and provoking them" in a manner that could "disrupt public peace."

The order required Tripathi to show cause why he should not be bound to maintain peace for six months by executing a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh with two local, solvent sureties of equal amount. A hearing was scheduled for September 5.
