As the government's loudest advocate for ethanol-blended fuel, Gadkari has pushed E20 nationally. Reporting by Tehelka and Bhaskar English found both of his sons involved in the ethanol and sugar business through the Purti Group and related companies — a combination critics called a clear conflict of interest. Ethanol-blending policy formally sits with the Petroleum Ministry, but Gadkari's public advocacy is central to the programme.

Purti Group: the 2012 funding questions and the e-rickshaw policy gain
Family-controlled Purti Group, Nagpur
In 2012, India Against Corruption activists alleged opaque shareholding and funding in the Purti Group, Gadkari's family-run business network; income-tax surveys followed the accusations. In 2015, reporting flagged that a Purti subsidiary manufacturing e-rickshaws stood to gain from the government's e-rickshaw legalisation push that Gadkari championed.
Their response · Gadkari denied wrongdoing through the episode and called the funding allegations politically motivated.
